Bradon Forest School
Bradon Forest School is a popular school enjoying a pleasant campus with rural views on the edge of the village of Purton. Its name derives from an extensive Royal medieval forest in the locality. The School opened in 1962 to cater for 390 students of secondary age, becoming fully comprehensive in 1974, grant maintained in 1993, and a Foundation school in 1999. It is now a successful 11 to 16 co-educational comprehensive, with approximately 1160 students on roll.
The area we serve includes Purton, Cricklade and the surrounding villages in North Wiltshire aswell as the north and west of the Swindon area.
The school enjoys excellent support from the Governing Body, PTA, parents and local community. In September 2005, Bradon Forest became a Specialist School for the Arts. The funding for this has enabled us to further develop our extensive community arts provision. Our Specialist Status is being utilised to enhance all that we provide for our students.
Our successful Specialist School application provided the funds for our new Dance/Drama Studio, which was completed in January 2006.
We are proud of our accreditation (2005) of the national government quality mark for ICT (NAACE) and the National ICT mark (2006). Bradon Forest is also a NOF ICT Training centre. Our
impressive range of ICT facilities has been improved year by year and we now have 450 networked computers, all staff with their own laptops, laptops for curricular use, interactive whiteboards in every teaching room and an extensive ‘Learning Platform’ providing a ‘connected learning community’ which involves several of our partner primary schools and international partners. Other quality marks include ArtsMark Gold (2004 and 2007), Investors in People (2002, 2005 and 2008), International School Full Award (2008 – 2011), Quality in Study Support (QUISS - 2006) and Healthy Schools (2008 – 2011).
Recent improvements to our facilities include a new Library Learning Centre, a suite of three ICT rooms, two Music rooms with accompanying practice rooms, a second Drama Studio and two new Science Laboratories. Our new Design Technology block was completed in 2004 and provides first class facilities for all aspects of Design Technology.
As mentioned above, in 2005 we were awarded DfES Popular and Successful School Status and with the capital grant we have built a further four new Science laboratories, a pavilion and new changing rooms (opened January 2007). Phase Two provided two new Art rooms and resource areas and an extra new Humanities room (opened May 2007). Phase Three was completed and in use in June 2007 and provides an additional 30 station ICT room plus new facilities for Progression/Connexions suite and extra facilities for Learning Support. In October 2008, a new four classroom block was completed which further enhances our facilities for Mathematics. In September 2009 a new Training Centre with meeting room will be opened and Art will be provided with a 3D/Sculpture room.
A range of further enhancement projects are planned for the next twelve months including further upgrading in ICT, English, Humanities, and public areas. These developments have enabled us to provide our students with a high quality learning environment for the 21st Century.
