Gilbert and Sullivan Society

A lively, informal but purposeful group, we stage a Gilbert and Sullivan operetta every year in March. Members range in age from 20s up to 70s. It helps if you can read music but is not essential. Enthusiasm and a sense of humour are more important!

We rehearse at 7.45 pm on Tuesday evenings at the Methodist Church hall on the corner of Queen's Drive and Whitbourne Avenue, Walcot.

Gilbert and Sullivan were the Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber of their day, and wrote a number of wildly popular musical comedies over a period of around 20 years in the late 19th century. The Gondeliers, Pirates of Penzance, The Mikado, Ruddigore, Iolanthe, and Patience are the names of some of them that you may have heard of.
