Headstarts Nursery in Delta Office Park, Westlea, Swindon is housed in a modern building converted to a Nursery in 1994 and offering day-care for up to 48 children per session, aged 0 to 5 years.
Westlea Staff Team
The Manager, Debbie Harries, is a qualified and experienced Nursery Nurse with many years experience. A team of qualified and experienced Nursery Nurses together with several Nursery Assistants supports her. Each Nursery Nurse is known as a 'Key-worker' and is responsible for her own `key children`.
The Nursery is divided into 3 main Units that cater for a specific age range. Our Key-workers are trained and familiar with their own age group Unit. Children who attend the Nursery are each introduced and settled into one of the Key-worker groups. This enables close relationships to develop between your child and their main carer which assists us in closely monitoring your child's well being and progress.

Above all, we are concerned with your child's happiness and consequently our principal aim is to create a warm, friendly, happy and relaxed environment in which he/she can flourish.
Small Nursery Units
In order to provide an interesting and stimulating environment the nursery is divided into 3 main Units, each specialising in a particular age range:
Baby Unit: Kim Morris, our Deputy Manager, heads our dedicated baby unit team, caring for 12 babies from 0 - 18 months. Babies enjoy a small adult : child ratio where they can get the one to one care they need every time they come in.
Toddler Unit: (18 months to 2½ years) Our lively Toddler Unit accommodates 14 Toddlers per session and is run by Delphine Gestin.
Pre-School Unit: From approximately 2 years, 6 months, children move up to our 24 place pre-school unit. This is led by our Manager, Debbie Harries who oversees the Nursery as a whole.
Each Unit provides a challenging environment with a wide and diverse selection of equipment, specifically chosen to enhance all areas of a child's development and relevant to the age group of that Unit.
Creative stimulus is provided with sand, paint, water, sensory and art activities.
Singing, dancing, instruments, puppets and Story Time are also firm favourites with the children of all ages.
Social and physical skills are enhanced with the wide selection of equipment including construction sets, toys for the imagination, dressing-up and make-believe, progressing to home corners for our older children .
Outdoor play is just as important and we encourage our staff to spend a large amount of time with the children experiencing the benefits that playing outside brings. We are able to use the surrounding rural area to expand the children’s outside environment experiences.
In our Toddler Unit and especially our Pre-school Unit, Maths and Language are developed with the equipment specifically chosen to encourage number work, mathematical concepts, language skills, letter recognition, computer skills and an enjoyment of books.
Our under 2’s enjoy the close relationship they have with their key workers and enjoy all types of sensory play, books, music, imaginative play and construction toys.
Each week, detailed activities are planned for all our children. They include every area of child development, focusing on the Early Years Foundation Stage, as set down by the Department of Education. Activities are adult-led as well as child-initiated with children closely involved in choosing what they do each day.
For our children aged 0 to 5 years, detailed records are maintained for physical, emotional, social, language and intellectual development to ensure that every child is achieving and aiming for their own personal goals.
