(STEP) Swindon 10 - 18 Project
Swindon 10 - 18 Projects (STEP) is a voluntary organisation for children and young people based in Swindon providing activity based therapeutic group work in a safe environment.
We use activities to provide a vehicle for discussion, raising awareness and building confidence in the skills necessary for living in our world.
Young people who use the Charity's services may be one or a combination of: primary family carer; survivors of abuse; at risk or already excluded from schooling or mainstream activities; showing patterns of self harm; have a specific learning difficulty; experiencing isolation and poor peer relationships; at risk of entering or already a part of the Youth Justice system; have behavioural and/or mental health issues, are experiencing poverty, depravation as well as isolation and exclusion due to either their behaviour or circumstance, they have complex needs and are some of the most vulnerable children and young people in our society.
Our aim is that children and young people leaving STEP will have the confidence and ability to address their own behaviour, join mainstream activities and continue a path towards lifelong learning. The type of activities we run include art, drama, cooking, we make all the activities appropriate to the young people’s abilities and interests. All activities have an underlying therapeutic aim such as anger management, communication skills, building self esteem and assertiveness, which addresses the young people's behaviour.
