Swindon Church Bell Ringers
The Swindon Branch is one of twelve which make up the Gloucester and Bristol Association. It has 21 towers, 19 of which are ringable and a healthy membership of 137 ringers. A joint practice is held once a month on the second Monday, 7:30pm-9pm, allowing members to experience different bells and to ring methods they may not be able to manage at their home tower. Young person’s practices are also held quarterly.
Branch events occur throughout the year and typically comprise of a branch striking competition, a quiz night, a branch meal and a Christmas branch outing. In addition the branch participates in association activities providing a band for the annual association 6 bell (Croome Trophy) and 8 bell (Penn Trophy) striking competitions as well as the young person’s striking competition (Nibley Trophy). The branch has enjoyed much success in recent years having won the Penn Trophy six times in the last nine years and the Nibley Trophy for the last 3 years running.
The branch encourages the development of its ringers and in response to requests arranges training sessions, either in conjunction with the association or on its own and quarter peals for members. It is also keen to receive feedback on what activities its ringers would like to see organised. Further information about the branch and its activities can be obtained by contacting the branch secretary.
