Swindon Community First Responder Scheme, St John Ambulance Wilt

Wiltshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust.

Community First Responders work in partnership with Great Western Ambulance Service. Volunteers are trained in life saving skills and respond to 999 calls in their local community at the same time as an NHS ambulance is alerted. The purpose is to give immediate live saving skills and assist with patient care. All local Community First Responders are volunteers, all funding is from Fundraising and Charitable donations.

No regular meetings.

Each Neighbourhood Responder Team will be supplied with a First Responder Bag containing: Oxygen Cylinder and Masks, Defibrilator, Dressings, Gloves and Mobile Telephone or Pager plus Protective Clothing.

Scheme is run in conjunction with St John Ambulance.

Volunteers should be aged between 18 and 70, have a current clean driving licence, be caring and physically fit, flexible and organised. They must be local people who can either walk or drive to the scene within 6 minutes. Initial training will be for a minimum of 21 hours followed by informal reassessments every 90 days and an annual formal assessment, which the volunteer is expected to pass.

Serves: Swindon Central, Stratton, Ferndale, Parks/Walcot, Woodhall Park/Haydon Wick, Bishopstone, West Swindon.
