Swindon Stroke Support Group
A voluntary Stroke Support Group started in 1981, affiliated to The Stroke Association and a Registerd Charity.
It's aims are to improve the quality of life of stroke survivors and their carers, prove that there is a life after a stroke, and keen to make the best of what life has to offer all stroke survivors and their carers are welcome to come along and see what we are all about.
We meet every thursday evening, except for a short break @ Christmas, between 7pm & 9pm.
Besides our weekly socials, we arrange local trips out most months of the year, a few days out each year, a Holiday for All and a regular Newsletter. We do it all with a wonderful team of volunteer drivers and escorts (we use 3 Community Transport accessible minibuses to transport our members to and from home, but there is often a waiting list for this), volunteer helpers, carers and organisers who donate over 4000 hours between them each year to make it all happen. We currently charge 50p per evening and an additional 50p if our transport is provided. All our activities are heavily subsidised, as we raise each year around £8/£10,000 to meet the considerable costs of the Transport and Hall hire and to help pay for all the outings we arrange.
