The Melksham Pearlies
The Melksham Pearlies provide traditional sing-a-long entertainment
We started as a carnival entry in 1993, with no plans or aspirations to become entertainers. Gradually following on from the carnival we somehow turned into an entertainment group.
This was not planned and most of the original people eventually left, except us, Jeanette & Mike, we then recruited some more people and for quite a few years there were six of us, then four and since July 2007 there are just two of us.
We average about 55/65 performances a year.
We cover lots of miles and use gallons of petrol. In 2008 we covered 2,569 miles and in 2009 we did 1,965 miles.
In 2008 we performed a total of 76 shows (no wonder we did so many miles).
In 2009 we performed a total of 63 shows (2 were snowed off)!
We make our own costumes. [ask Mike how many buttons are on his trousers]
We have our music professionally recorded for us to our own specification.
We donate our profits to the Wiltshire Air Ambulance Appeal and to date [January 2010] we have given them a total of Thirteen Thousand Pounds.
