Wiltshire Archaeological and Natural History Society (WANHS), Archaeology Field Group (AFG).
To foster interest in and explore the archaeology, natural history and local history of Wiltshire; to maintain a museum, library, art gallery and biological recording centre; publish an annual journal; safeguard and conserve archaeology of Wiltshire.
The Museum is arranged in two Grade 2 Georgian buildings and has many steps, stairs and changes of level. Unfortunately no lift is available to upper levels, however ramps are available to assist wheelchair users to move easily around the ground floor. Toilets located upstairs, no toilet accessible to wheelchair users. Large print muesum guides and plans are availble on request.
Museum; library, gallery; headquarters with lecture hall at 41 Long Street.
Museum open: Monday to Saturday: 10am - 5pm; Sunday: 12pm - 4pm. Also open on Bank Holidays but please phone to check first.
Library open: Tuesday to Friday: 10am - 5pm; Saturday: 10am - 1pm & 2pm - 5pm. It is closed on Sundays, Mondays and the first Saturday of every month.
Museum admission: Adults: £4.50; Concessions: £3.50. Non-tax payers and overseas visitors: £4 / £3 . Children under 16 are admitted FREE - except school groups. Entry is free for members of WANHS, Salisbury & South Wiltshire Museum, Museums Association, National Arts Collections Fund and the English Tourist Board. Museum admission is free for all on a Sunday. Library admission is included in the Museum charge, Society members are admitted free. Although a charge is made to use the Library, Museum visitors are welcome to look around it. Booked parties are welcome during normal opening hours.
