Wiltshire Blind Association - Swindon Branch

Craven House in Victoria Road is the home of the Swindon Branch of the Wiltshire Blind Association. It is staffed by a small group of volunteers.

Beck Hall, which is adjacent to the house is used by a craft and social club.

The Craft Club which has an instructor employed by W.B.A., headquarters, meets on Tuesdays between 10a.m., and 2 p.m. Members are engaged in a variety of handicraft activities. Each year they take part in a handicraft exhibition in Devizes, frequently returning home with numerous prizes and commendations.

The Social Club meets on Wednesdays between 2 p.m., and 4 p.m.. There is usually entertainment by visiting groups. Details of future guests can be found on the Activities Page.

Any member of the branch is welcome to attend. Two minibuses are used to bring some of the members to the Social Club. If you need transport, please telephone Craven House, (01793) 523374 to find out if there is space on the minibus which covers your area.

The Swindon branch has a Resource Room displaying a variety of aids for visually impaired people, (V.I.P.s). It is open on the first Saturday in the month from 10 a.m., to noon when John or Helen will be pleased to show you what is available.
Appointments can be made at other times to suit your convenience.

Craven House is also used by two other organisations.

On the ground floor is the office of Swindon Borough Council’s Social Service Hearing and Vision Team who work closely with W.B.A. They can be contacted on (01793) 481861 .

The upper floor houses the studios of Swindon Talking Newspaper who produce a 90 minute weekly news tape for V.I.P.s in the Swindon area.
